Closed Beta begins August 31

FakeFish announced that the first Frostrail closed beta will begin on August 31, 2026. Registration is open and previously registered players do not need to register again. The accompanying press kit placed the announcement during Steam Train Fest and quoted lead designer Ez Jämsen saying the game had almost 500,000 Steam wishlists.

Almost 500,000 Steam wishlists

In the Closed Beta press kit, lead designer Ez Jämsen said Frostrail had gained almost 500,000 Steam wishlists since reveal. This updates the earlier April 28 milestone of 400,000 and remains a wishlist count, not sales or concurrent players.

Spring Development Update

The team reported more than 100,000 playtest applications and detailed a new tutorial, cross-level progression, multiple exits, dungeon and tundra improvements, train defense, Relics, enemy variations, clothing, and repair workstations.

First closed playtest

The first closed playtest began April 16, was originally scheduled through April 27, and was later extended to May 4. The test focused on the early gameplay loop and included a friend-invite chain.
