Frostrail Locations

Frostrail is structured around large frozen levels connected by the train. Official descriptions confirm tundra, abandoned settlements, wreckage, mining camps, villages, frozen ruins, derelict bunkers, ruined strongholds, modular dungeons, subterranean vaults, and multiple exits—but not a final named world map.

Tundra

The tundra is the game's principal open frozen biome. The May 2026 update reported that it had been expanded for further exploration.

  • Blizzards reduce visibility and movement
  • New points of interest are being artist-built rather than purely procedural
  • Named regions and map coordinates: TBA

Modular dungeons

Dungeons use modular construction and were overhauled with updated lighting. They are a confirmed source of Relics, and the April test brief explicitly included early-game dungeon raids.

  • Layouts can vary and remain under development
  • Relics found inside can be activated aboard the train
  • An official screenshot shows the objective “The Trial Below — Search the unknown for a hidden shrine”

Abandoned settlements & wreckage

The official store description identifies abandoned settlements and wreckage as exploration and scavenging spaces.

  • Used to recover supplies and equipment
  • Environmental storytelling is part of the frozen empire premise
  • Individual settlement names and guaranteed loot: TBA

Mining camps & villages

The July 2026 Closed Beta press kit says crews stop at remnants of civilization, including old mining camps and villages, to forage for food and materials.

  • Named as forage stops, not as a finished world atlas
  • Food and materials are the stated finds
  • Canonical camp or village names: TBA

Subterranean vaults

The same Closed Beta press copy says subterranean vaults hide powerful weapons and rewards. Treat this as a location type, not as a loot table or named vault list.

  • Described alongside mining camps and villages
  • Rewards are described as powerful weapons, not itemized
  • Relationship to modular dungeons: not separately mapped

Derelict bunkers

Derelict bunkers are one of the confirmed location types encountered beyond the rails.

  • Exact access requirements: TBA
  • Enemy and loot tables: TBA
  • No official bunker names have been published

Ruined strongholds

Ruined strongholds and frozen ruins are named world features, but the developers have not yet disclosed their final map placement or reward structure.

  • Part of the former empire's frozen landscape
  • Specific threats, relics, and resources: TBA
  • Names and routes: TBA

Levels & exits

The journey advances north through connected levels. Crews can switch tracks, clear obstacles, and choose among exits or tunnels leading onward.

  • Terrain is mixed: hand-authored foundations with procedural natural assets, POIs, loot, and enemy placement
  • Current development builds carry progression between levels and support multiple exits
  • A developer interview says thorough exploration can exceed two hours, but final level duration is not fixed

April playtest scope

The April 2026 test brief included the tutorial and two more game areas, giving the public a bounded sample rather than the final world map.

  • Tutorial plus two exploration areas
  • Early-game dungeons included
  • Scavenging, recycling, crafting, and train operation included
