Onboard benches support crafting as the train is expanded.

Refineries process recovered materials. Metal scraps → slag metal → pure metal is the one public chain; wood and plastic use similar steps.

Current official material shows this interface assembling a modular Bolt-Action Rifle. The 2025 reveal trailer also captured an older station placement cost; use the rifle entry for the full current screenshot recipe and stat panel.

A dedicated repair workstation is part of the reworked item-repair system.

The cooking station produces foods that grant health and other buffs.

Players scavenge materials in the frozen world, return to the train, and use onboard production facilities to strengthen both crew and locomotive. Weapons are planned to be craftable and modular rather than purely random drops.
The clearest published refinement example converts metal scraps into slag metal and then pure metal. The founder says wood and plastic are refined in similar ways, connecting raw salvage to higher-grade production inputs.

The official Steam Assembly Station image documents a complete Bolt-Action Rifle recipe and shows Wooden, Padded, and Bare stock options. The rifle entry keeps the full material list and visible stat panel together; these remain pre-release screenshot values, not a promise that the recipe or modifiers will be unchanged at Early Access launch.

The Closed Beta ran from August 31 through September 7, 2026 and permitted players to record and stream gameplay. A clear workstation screen from that build can establish a build-specific recipe or item value when the item name, value, and game context are visible. It cannot establish unseen requirements, a global drop rate, or a final balance rule.

The current Bolt-Action Rifle screen is the only complete modern material requirement visible. The official 2025 reveal trailer separately shows an Assembly Station placement preview costing ten Wood scraps and ten Textile scraps. Because that footage is labeled pre-alpha and later material uses different resource labels, the older station cost is preserved as development history rather than current advice.

A September 8 Steam comment reports that the Zip Gun Craft button was outside the visible screen on a Steam Deck. This is a historical player report about the Beta interface. It does not establish a missing-material rule, recipe failure, official workaround, or verified Steam Deck support.
If the same symptom appears in the demo, record the recipe screen, display mode, resolution and build before reporting it. A hidden control and a disabled control are different problems; collecting more ingredients is not an established fix.
Frostrail is still in development. Names and values shown here are tied to published game material, while unfinished recipes, drop rates, costs, and balance numbers stay marked as unpublished until players can verify them in a live build.
