Frostrail Multiplayer & Co-op

Frostrail supports single-player and online co-op for crews of one to four. Players share responsibility for expeditions and the Eden Engine rather than selecting announced fixed classes.

Solo and online co-op for 1–4 players

Player count & modes

Steam lists both single-player and online co-op, while the official FAQ states that crews contain one to four players. The game is designed so the train and expedition loop can be played solo or shared.

Co-op gameplay

Crews operate, maintain, expand, and defend the Eden Engine, then explore frozen levels for materials, equipment, and Relics. Founder Aku Jauhiainen says co-op is designed so players can divide tasks such as scavenging and defending the train. Public information does not announce class locks, so crew roles should be treated as situational responsibilities. Official gameplay-trailer press copy also warns that the roar of the engine draws Revenants from the frozen wilds, which is a shared-noise risk rather than a solo-only threat.

  • Coordinate fuel, power, driving, repair, and train defense
  • Split scavenging and train-guard tasks
  • Share scarce ammunition and crafting resources
  • Choose between multiple level exits
  • Do not treat engine noise as a known aggro radius value

How multiplayer worked in the April playtest

The April closed playtest included multiplayer and Steam's Friend Invite feature: an accepted player could invite one Steam friend, who could then invite another. That was a test-access method, not a promise that the released game will use the same invitation or ownership system.
